Repeat Perfomances

Wilson has provided many repeat performances on the potty over the last several days. He has used the potty each morning since his debut performance as well as last night at bath time. He’s not initiating any trips to the potty yet, but he willingly sits down and tries each time I suggest it. We’re very pleased with him, and he’s very pleased with himself.

Wilson Pees on the Potty!

Wilson is 2 1/2 years old and until last week, we’d never seen him pee. Then twice last week he peed on the changing table right after his bath. The Manis family knows an opportunity when they see one, so Wilson has been bathed a little more frequently than usual this week and each night we sit him on the potty chair right after his bath. Tonight it finally paid off. I had to distract him with silly antics to get him to sit down, but when he had finally done his business, he gave a look of surprise and then delight and then there was a little dance party in our bathroom. We realize there is still a long road ahead of us, but it was a nice first step for a boy who has shown little interest in being a big boy and doing big boy things, like using the potty chair.

. . . and Tim Eyeman is claiming that the low margin means that The People have spoken for lower property taxes. I guess we’ll see.

A 175 day school year?

I attended another school board meeting tonight and was shocked to find that the Shoreline School District is in the final year of its 175 school day calendar waiver. I’ve never actually counted the days, but I assumed that we were in school 180 days, just like everybody else. Is this because of budget constraints? Is the general public aware of this? I didn’t have my wits about me enough to get any answers (I was too stunned), but I will follow-up and report.

An Abby-ism

Abby was coloring a piece of paper with lots of pictures at the top of which she wrote “STAR WARS!”. As she was telling me about all of the details, she said, “and see here where I wrote ‘STAR WARS’ followed by my say-it-with-feeling mark?”

Teachers protest overloaded classrooms

Sarah Koenig of the Shoreline Enterprise has a good overview of the Shoreline schools walkout: Teachers protest overloaded classrooms. Her piece explains the issue clearly and fairly. It’s the most complete story I’ve seen so far.
